merweville

A peaceful town in South Africa located in the heart of the Karoo, where the stars are breathtaking at night and the only thing you feel like doing here, is relaxing. Merweville was established in 1904 and still has those traditions that everyone has forgotten about. With the warm, friendly and helpful people living here, you’ll feel like you’re home. The wonderful surroundings of the town can be explored on foot or you could take the bicycles for a ride. Hiking trails are located among the hills, with the trail up the hill giving you a gorgeous view of the Swartberg-, Nuweveldsberg- and the Roggeveld mountains. A stay at Springbok Lodge will give you a wonderful Karoo experience.

From Merweville you can travel via the Koms mountain pass for 110km to the Observatory at Sutherland. The SALT Observatory is the biggest Observatory in Southern Africa. You can also travel to Oudtshoorn via the Swartbergpass or Meiringspoort pass via Prins Albert to Merweville, to experience the beautiful karoo scenery. If you don’t feel like driving around, you can just enjoy the Guest house for what is has to offer. There are various lapa’s with barbeque facilities, where you can sit on logs around a big fire. You could jump on the trampoline or simply cool off in the farm-style dam. The best time to visit Merweville is between March and October, when the weather is just right and the karoo beauty shining bright!
